Visiting the Spanish region of Costa Blanca

If you are among those who decided to visit Spain for its seaside resort but you haven’t decided yet which one to choose, I recommend you an entire region: Costa Blanca. It is a spectacular idea to go from city to city and from village to village in Costa Blanca, as every little place has something to offer, something to nourish the eyes, the ears and all the other senses.

Starting the journey

If you want to get into contact with the traditional Spain, start your journey into the village of Formentera del Segura. The village was founded by the Moors, but the Christians took control in 1242. Its history is a very interesting one; it even managed to survive an earthquake. Today, its inhabitants live from agriculture and from cultivating citruses; festivals are the primary source of entertainment, and one of the most popular is “The Bicycle’s Day,” when almost all the inhabitants take part in a funny race.

Continuing the journey with Benijofar and Algorfa

From Formentera del Segura, go to Benijofar. The village’s name can be translated as “son of pearl” and it was given by the Moors. Almost the entire Costa Blanca was initially under Moorish occupation and then conquered by the Christians, and Benijofar is no exception. Since you are here, visit the Saint James Church, dating back to the 17th century. Algorfa stays in the center of the citrus groves, so the views are spectacular. You will be welcomed by very friendly and open-hearted people, the inhabitants of Algorfa, and the same people who continuously fight to keep the Spanish traditions alive.

Redovan and Los Montesinos

Redovan was founded by the Moors sometime between the 8th and the 13th centuries. The views, guarded by the Sierra Segura Mountains are spectacular. While here, visit the city hall and the crafts shops selling ceramic objects. Los Montesinos is situated on the old Via Augusta, which used to be the most important road in the time of the Romans. Even though it is more modern than the other Costa Blanca villages, its streets are still full of orange and lemon trees which perfume the air.

Ciudad Quesada and Vega Baja

Ciudad Quesada was started from nothing in 1972. By 1999 they finished what you can see today: a wonderful holiday village, the perfect escape from the noisy cities. Vega Baja is popular for its superb beaches, so don’t miss it! Enjoy your Costa Blanca trip!
